Tips for the Wedding Day:

As a wedding photographer in Boston, I’ve picked up on several nifty tips and tricks that will make your wedding day something more of a breeze and less of a storm. So what are we waiting for? Let’s get started!

Be the Early Bird!

You were quick with your wedding preps and were able to organize the perfect wedding. Now that the wedding is here, it may still be in your favor to play the Early Bird card. Ask your hair and makeup stylist to get you ready at least 2 hours before the wedding ceremony begins.

This leaves you with enough time to get all your pre-wedding ceremony wedding portraits with all your bridesmaids, parents and family portraits done and taken care of. You would not have to rush through things, which in my opinion is one amazing perk to have.

Don’t Have a Crowd Around You All the Time:

As the wedding ceremony approaches, it is natural to experience some nerves kicking in. After all, you will be making a big life decision. So you would already be a little nervous and edgy and the last thing you would want is to be surrounded by people making too much noise. My advice is to get ready for the wedding in a separate room, while your bridesmaids, aunts, nieces and everyone else in between can get ready somewhere else.

Or if you have to get ready in the same place, for some reason, make sure there is enough space for everyone. You do not want to be huddled around by a boisterous crowd.

Walk the Walk:

One of my favorite moments to capture is the bride walking down the aisle with her father.

When you arrive at the Church, take a deep breath and realize that it’s all going to be okay. Sure, all eyes are on you but who else would they be on? I mean, you are the bride, you are the VVIP of the event. You look stunning, and everything will be okay. Walk slowly and look straight ahead. Nobody is timing you and you are certainly in no rush.

How to Include All Your Guests in the Photos:

All your loved ones are here at your wedding. Naturally, you would want to have a picture taken with everyone, but there isn’t enough time to go about it!

Or is there?

Here’s what you need to do: skip the receive line that may take forever and it is so boring! You will just be greeting everyone and that would be the end of it. I’m not kidding when I say that the receiving line seems to go on forever!

Instead when the reception begin, let’s go to table-by-table and say hi to your guests…and then we take a photo with them as well! This is one foolproof way that you can have a picture with all your guests and meet them at the same time. As professional photographer we will take less than 2 minutes per table and will make sure that you guys move fast.

Bonus Points: You can even use some of those table photos in the thank you cards that you may send to them later!

The father-daughter/ mother-groom Dance Etiquette:

Another one of my favorite wedding moments to capture on camera is the wedding dance the bride and groom share with their parents. But so many brides and grooms I see them talking with their parents that it kind of spoils the essence of the dance.

Here’s what you should be doing instead: do not sing or talk, dance cheek to cheek with your parent. Once you have these moves mastered, look at the camera and give us a little smile or two for a nice picture!

Perfect!

A Second Wedding Dress may be a Great Idea:

I am not sure how many of you would agree with me on this one, but it can be a great idea to change your wedding gown to a second smaller white dress, one that has no train. This makes it so much easier for you to walk and dance!

It may seem like silly spending on two wedding gowns instead of one, but I have seen many brides having to dance uncomfortably with the train of their wedding gown getting in the way because the bustle broke. So once you are done with the wedding formality of cutting the cake and the parents dance, you can change into the second dress and dance without the fear of tripping or worse fall.

These are just some of the helpful tips that will hopefully assist you on your wedding day. If you are looking for a wedding photographer in Boston, please feel free to get in touch with me!
